Collbató
Collbató, located at 388 m. high, has historically been the gateway to the Montserrat massif, whose natural treasures are within reach: the Salnitre cave, the deep channels, rocks of fantastic shapes, the flight of birds, the oak forests... a whole natural park close to the town.
Without a doubt, we cannot overlook making a small introduction to one of the treasures mentioned above: The caves of Collbató or del Salnitre: these caves, 549 m long and 20 m height, form a set of galleries, corridors and rooms full of stalactites and stalagmites and capricious geological forms, thus being a place full of legends and stories. The caves are located inside the Montserrat massif, with mainly calcareous conglomerates rich in phosphates, which is why the saltpeter that can be found was exploited. As a small note, it was its organic and undulating forms that served as inspiration to Gaudí, master of Catalan Modernism, for works such as the Sagrada Família.
Historically, the footprints have left their mark with the passage of Neolithic civilizations, the medieval castle and town, popular architecture and modernist art. It should be noted that in the 20th century, with the increase in industrial activity, the artisanal construction of organs with wood and metal became very well known.
In short, the popular culture of this municipality means that it is possible to talk about a magical world of legends, fables and fabulous beings accompanying the discovery of the mountain of Montserrat.
